Ahilez

Your Google Drive folders, fully on your Mac.

Ahilez keeps the Google Drive folders you choose fully on your Mac and keeps them in sync in both directions. Each one is an ordinary folder on your Mac, with its files really there: no streaming, no placeholders.

Work offline as usual. When the connection is back, your changes go to Drive and changes made elsewhere come to your Mac.

Ahilez is made by Beedevz and is currently in development. Today it is used from the command line (ahilezctl); a menu bar app is on the way.

Features

The folders you choose, fully local

You pick the Drive folders you want. Each becomes an ordinary folder on your Mac that works without a connection.

Two-way sync

New, changed and deleted files are carried both ways, by default every five minutes.

Safe by default

When a file changed on both sides, both versions are kept. A sync that would delete more than half of a folder stops and waits until you confirm. The first sync of a folder that already has files on both sides starts with a trial run you review.

Your data stays on your Mac

Ahilez talks to Google directly. Beedevz has no server in between and never receives your files, file names or access tokens. Ahilez sends no analytics or telemetry.

How Ahilez uses your Google data

To sync, Ahilez asks for access to your Google Drive. It uses that access only to:

  • list the folders in your Drive, so you can choose which ones to sync;

  • copy the files in the folders you chose to your Mac;

  • upload, change or delete files in those folders on Drive, to mirror what you changed on your Mac;

  • show how much of your Drive storage is used.

A narrower permission is not enough: Ahilez syncs folders that already exist in your Drive, which the "files created by this app" permission cannot see.

To disconnect, run ahilezctl account disconnect. To withdraw the permission at Google, remove Ahilez at myaccount.google.com/connections. The details are in the Ahilez section of our privacy policy.
